SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): At least 15 Talibaninfo-icon insurgents have been killed and 50 others wounded during an operation in Sayyad districts of northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Monday.

Sar-I-Pul police chief, Qaum Baqizoi, told a press conference the operation was launched on Sar-I-Pul and Faryab province’s border area.

Two days earlier, Taliban militants launched attacks on parts of Mirza Awlang village of Sayyad district and parts of Balcheragh district of northwestern Faryab province, but Afghan forces retreated them last night, he said.

He said 15 Taliban militants were killed and 50 others wounded in Afghan forces’ retaliatory attack.

The bodies of two of the militants were still laid on the incident scene, Baqizoy said.

A large amount of food items and equipments belonged to the Taliban also seized after the clash, he added.

However, a Taliban shadow district chief, Enayatullah Khan said that two Afghan Local Police (ALP) members were killed in the attacks.

He said the Taliban suffered no casualties in the incident.
