A dozen Taliban, policeman killed in Badghis firefight

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Twelve militants have been killed and eight others wounded during a clash in the Bala Murghab district of northwestern Badghis province, an official said on Wednesday.

Ahmad Zia Akazai, the town’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the gunbattle erupted when Talibaninfo-icon stormed security check-posts in Akazai locality on Tuesday night.

He said the Taliban attack was repulsed as the insurgents faced strong resistance from security forces and airstrikes. A policeman was killed and three others were wounded during the encounter.

But Taliban claimed 14 policemen were killed and six others wounded during the overnight firefight. The group acknowledged five of its fighters were killed and 11 others wounded.
