Railroad, other projects to boost regional trade, hopes Ashgabat

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Joint infrastructure projects in Afghanistaninfo-icon will help boost the war-torn country’s economy and generate employment opportunities for the people, the Turkmenistangovernment says.

According to the state news service, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway line is intended to stimulate trade ties among regional countries.

The first phase of the project envisages construction of two railway sections: An 85-kilometre Atamyrat-Imamnazar stretch in Turkmenistan and a 38-kilometre line from Imamnazar to the Andkhoi in Afghanistan.

“At present, the railway line has been laid till the Imamnazar station. In parallel, work is underway on laying power lines, construction of infrastructure facilities at the Gulistan and Imamnazar stations, construction of two major railway bridges at this track.”
