Uplift projects kick off in Nangarhar, Laghman, Paktia

JALALABAD/MEHTARLAM/SHARANA (Pajhwok): Work on a number of development projects in Nangarhar, Paktia and Laghman provinces has been launched, officials said on Sunday. 

Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, , told Pajhwok Afghan News foundation stone of new building for the provincial public works department was laid in the province on Sunday.  

The two-storey building would be constructed on three acres of land, having 21 office rooms, a hall and other facilities, Zwak said.

He said the cost of construction of the building was 670,000 Afghanis, provided by the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) and would be completed in a year.

Construction of another four rooms at the provincial civil hospital was also launched with the financial support from Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), Zwak said.

He added the new facility was allocated for surgeries and emergency treatment of displaced families’ patients.

The building was being constructed at a total cost of 170,000 afs provided by UNOCHA and its construction work would be completed in four months.

The Laghman Governor Abdul Jabar Naimi expressed happiness over the implementation of projects he termed as his priorities and said the construction projects were being launched as he planned.

The governor was making all out efforts to reconstruct the province institutions’ infrastructure and 90 percent construction work would be completed until the next year.

Elsewhere, construction work on a standard storage for chemical medicines launched in eastern Nangarhar province, Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman said.

He said the facility would be built at a cost of 1.5 million Afghanis provided by the provincial agricultureinfo-icon, irrigation and livestock department.

The provincial agriculture director, Rafiullah Rahimzai, said the building would have the capacity to store 250 tonnes of chemical products.

In Paktika, the foundation stone of commerce and counter-narcotic departments’ buildings were also laid, Deputy Governor Abdul Wali Sahi said. The construction work of two infrastructural facilities would be completed in one year and were being built in the New Gardez.
