QALAT (Pajhwok): A public representative’s vehicle hit a roadside bomb in the southern province of Zabul, injuring two of his guards on Thursday, an official said.

The governor’s spokesman, Gul Islam Siyal, told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast ripped through the provincial council head’s vehicle around noon in the Dub Kotal locality of Shinkai district.

Atta Jan Haqbayan was on his way to Qalat, the provincial capital, from the Shinkai district when his vehicle struck the roadside bomb, he added.

Meanwhile, Haqbyan said the landmine had been planted by anti-government insurgents. He escaped unhurt in the blast but two of his guards wounded. They were evacuated to hospital.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion.
