KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): The uncle of President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday said his nephew ‘lacks full authority to make independent decisions.”

Abdul Qayum Kuchiinfo-icon said this while addressing a gathering at the government guesthouse in Khost City, the capital of southeastern Khost province.

Organized by the governor’s office, the gathering was held in support of the government and to assess people’s problems.

Without naming anyone, Kuchi said, in a veiled reference to CEO Abdullah Abdullah, said even the process of appointing officials was being interfered with.

The uncle of President Ghani said there were elements within the government who were trying to collapse the system at the behest of foreign intelligence agencies.

“We have many opponents, within the system there are people who want to scuttle the system and prevent laws from being enforced.”

Kuchi also criticized some local media outlets and called them “enemy media outlets” which he alleged were sponsored from outside to sabotage the Afghan government.

“Don’t listen to the media, they are enemy mouthpieces, they are not in the interest of the nation, they don’t want the system to strengthen and they don’t want prosperity here.”

Abdul Qayum Kuchi said President Ghani had many good plans for the country’s development, but no one supported him in implementing those plans.

A member of the provincial council of Khost, Qamar Ali Lakanwal, urged President Ghani to fulfill his election campaign promises with the people of Khost.

“We fully support our government, but we at the same time want the president to meet his promises.”
