Taliban’s shadow governor for Kunduz among 13 rebels killed

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 13 militants, including the Talibaninfo-icon’s shadow governor for northern Kunduz province, have been killed in an offensive and airstrikes on the outskirts of the provincial capital, an official said on Thursday.

Col. MasoomHashimi, the deputy police chief for the province, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was conducted on Wednesday night in Kanam locality to eliminatea Taliban group, including shadow the governor.

He vowed the offensive would go on until the last terrorist was eliminated. He indicated civilians also suffered causalities in the offensive, but exact figures were not yet available.

Arif, a resident of Kanam village, said the operation was underway in the village. He had no information regarding casualties.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said US forces launched an offensive in BuzKandahariarea last night. Several foreign troops were killed.

Three Taliban were also killed in the military action, he acknowledged, accusing the US forces of destroying dozens of homes in the area.
