SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): A seven-member insurgent group that joined the peace process two months ago killed five uprising members and fled in northern Sar-i-Pul province, officials said on Sunday.

Provincial police chief (operations) Sayed Naqib Darman told Pajhwok Afghan News the group led by Mullahinfo-icon Mirajuddin had joined the peace process about two months ago in the provincial capital.

He said the men had been employed to serve as uprising members in SarI-i-Pul city against their former comrades. But Mirajuddin and his two friends had not broken their relations with Talibaninfo-icon and killed five of their new colleagues before fleeing.

One of the attackers was killed and a second wounded when the uprising members returned fire.

A provincial council member, Mohammad Ali Hakimi, confirmed the incident and said the Taliban also took away weapons and ammunition from the uprising members.

Security and detective forces should take action against those who had guaranteed the rebels to be deployed in the uprising force, he said.
