JALALABD (Pajhwok): An 11-member Talibaninfo-icon group, including a notorious commander, has surrendered their weapons and joined the peace process in eastern Nangarhar province, the governor’s house said on Sunday.

A statement from the governor’s house said the weapons the Taliban surrendered included 10 Kalshinkves and a rocket launcher.

He identified the surrendering commander as Qari Sefatullah who had been involved in destructive activities in Ghanikhel, Rodat, Kot and Achin districts against government.

“After having given up insurgency, I'll no longer cooperate with Taliban," commander Qari Sefatullah promised, urging the government to provide them jobs in police.

However, the Taliban have not yet commented about their fighters joining the peace process.
