KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Ex-president Hamid Karzai hoped America’s incoming leader Donald Trump will take radical measures to force Pakistaninfo-icon into cracking down on terrorist and extremist forces.

An Indian newspaper quoted Karzai as saying on Monday: “We have a deep association with the US and we have been fighting against terrorism and extremism. However, we find more extremist elements carrying out violent activities.”

Currently on a visit to Mumbai, the former president told Asian Age he believed the Trump administration would concentrate on eradicating terror sanctuaries. Trump would deal with Pakistan with an iron hand to stop it sponsoring the scourge on its soil, he thought.

In response to a query, Karzai said, “We hope that he (Trump) will work with Muslims as well as all sections of societyinfo-icon to keep harmony and peace.”

India’s surgical strike in the Pakistan-administered zone of Kashmir was step that his country had been demanding for a long time, said Karzai, who visited Mumbai to attend a ceremony for the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for social justice.

He claimed both Afghanistaninfo-icon and India were victims of terrorism. India’s surgical strikeswould help eliminate terror sanctuaries, he argued.
