3 education officers sentenced to jail on graft charges

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Three officers of the educationinfo-icon department were sentenced to six months in jail by an anti-corruption court in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, an official said.

The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the officials were handed out the sentences at the end of an open trial by Judge Najibullah Frotan.

He said Education Director Allah Dad Ismailzai and other officials of the department also presented their views and information.

The anti-corruption court sentenced each of the three education officers to six months in jail in a corruption case involving 40,000 afghanis under Article 270 of the criminal law.

The verdict is not final and the accused have the right to appeal it in the appellant court, which had previously said four education officers, including the director, were under investigationsin corruption cases.
