DABS reports Nangarhar governor to NSC

DABS reports Nangarhar governor to NSC

Nov 30, 2016 - 17:42

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistaninfo-icon Breshna Sherkat (DABS) on Wednesday said it had shared with the National Security Council (NSC) the beating of its workers by bodyguards of the Nangarhar governor.

DABS spokesman in Kabul, Wahidullah Tawhidi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a campaign to collect unpaid electricity bills and cut off electricity to defaulters was underway in all provinces of the country.

The campaign had been successful in Herat, Balkh and some other provinces, but it faced with problems in Nangarhar, he said.

Tawhidi said bodyguards of the Nangarhar governor beat and abused DABS workers after they disconnected power supply to the governor’s house.

“The beating of DABS workers was ordered by the governor who later summoned the provincial power utility head and abused him,” he said.

He said the issue was investigated and shared with the NSC and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).

However, Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, declined the governor’s bodyguards had beaten DABS workers.

He said Nangarhar DABS director had violated the Cabinet decision not to cut off electricity to government departments.

He said the council of ministers had ordered disconnecting power to residential buildings and non-government organs which were defaulters.
