Taliban dismisses claim of killing Badghis woman

Dec 19, 2016 - 12:42

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): The Taliban have shot dead an 18-year-old girl in the Aab-i-Kamari district of northwestern Badghis province for being married to two men at a time, a local public representative said on Monday. However, Talibaninfo-icon rejected the claim.

Mohammad Nasir Nazari, the provincial council head, told Pajhwok Afghan News the young woman was gunned down in Dazingi village Sunday evening. Aziza was divorced by her first husband, who has been in Iran for work.

“Her former husband authorised one of his relatives here to divorce Aziza,” he said. Later on, Aziza tied the knot with another man, with whom she lived happily. Upon his return from Iran a few days earlier, her first husband denied divorcing her.

He expressed the desire to continue living with her wife, an issue that became town talk in a matter of days. He referred the matter to Mullah Esmat, Taliban’s shadow district chief, who ordered Aziza execution by shooting.

Zahir Bahand, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the woman’s killing by Taliban. However, he did not provide further information.

The Taliban denied the alleged killing of a woman. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid acknowledged that the case was referred to them and the Taliban sent the woman back to his father’s home to bring the evidence of her divorce.

Mujahid said two days back, the woman’s first husband along with two other armed men forced the way into the slain woman home and killed her. He said Taliban held the murderer and two other men in connection with the killing of woman.
