2 heroin labs, arms depot destroyed in Nangarhar

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Sunday said two huge heroin-producing and processing laboratories and an arms depot have been destroyed in eastern Nangarhar province.

A statement from the MoI said counter-narcotics special police unit detected and destroyed two heroin labs during a special operation on Saturday night.

The drug factories were located in Tarmi village of Khogyani district. Druges seized from the sites included 5,500 kilograms of opium, 10 kilograms of hashish, 10 kilgorams of heroin, two power-generators, 24 boilers and some chemical material used in producing drugs. The drugs were torched on the spot, it added.

Meanwhile, a joint operation by Afghan Local Police (ALP), Afghan National Army (ANA) and National Security Directorate (NDSinfo-icon) special units was conducted on Saturday night in Deh Balal district. A large cache of ammunition belonging to insurgents was destroyed in the operation.

According to the statement, four insurgents were also killed during a firefight with security forces as part of the operation.

Lt. Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, the provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News such overnight operation were being conducted by special security forces stationed in Kabul who didn’t keep local authorities in the loop.

The Talibaninfo-icon are yet to comment in this regard.
