SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Five Talibaninfo-icon gunmen were killed and eight others wounded during a clash with security forces in Sancharak district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, the governor said on Sunday.

Mohammad Zahir Wahdat told a press conference here that the clash that lasted 12 hours in Taghai-Khwaj and Tabir localities resulted in the killing of five militants and injuring of eight others.

Two notorious insurgent commanders named Sayed Adil and Nimat were among the dead, he said, adding two uprising members were also killed and as many wounded during the firefight.

He asked high-ranking government authorities to launch a huge clearing operation to drive rebels away from the district.

However, Taliban spokesman, Qari Zabihullah Mujahid, denied security officials claims, saying the fighters killed two public uprising commanders namely Hasham and Amanullah. He claimed the rebels captured three check-posts from security forces as well.
