Casualties as Afghan, Pakistani forces trade fire

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Afghan and Pakistaninfo-icon border forces on Thursday exchanged fire after two suspected militants crossed the border into southern Kandahar province, an official said.

The two sides exchanged weapons fire in Saro Sahano area between Spin Boldak and Shorak districts on Thursday noon at about 1:30pm and the firefight continued for one hour, Kandahar police spokesman Zia Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the border skirmish erupted after two persons crossed the border into Afghanistaninfo-icon from Pakistan on a motorcycle.

Afghan forces intercepted conversations between the two infiltrators and Pakistani security forces. The two on the bike told the Pakistanis that they had just crossed the border into Afghanistan, Durrani said.

He said when the Afghan border police ordered the two persons to stop, the Pakistani forces started firing at the Afghan forces, enabling the two cross back into Pakistan.

The Afghan forces retaliated and the fire exchange continued for one hour. One Afghan border guard was killed and another wounded in the skirmish that also inflicted casualties on the Pakistanis, but exact figures were unknown, the police spokesman said.
