Khost’s deputy police chief killed in Kandahar

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): The deputy police chief for southeastern Khost province was killed on Sunday in a gun attack in southern Kandahar province, an official said.

Kandahar governor’ spokesman, Samim Khpwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News gunmen shot dead the police official, Col. Mohammad Yaqob, in Hazrat Jee Baba locality of Kandahar City at around 2:00pm.

The attackers managed to escape but security forces were searching for them as part an investigation into the incident.

He did not provide information about what Col. Yaqob was doing in Kandahar.

No group has come forward to claim responsibility for the incident.
