Rebels release Amo River basin head, 2 others in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The head of the 5th Amo River basin along with two others has been released from insurgents’ captivity in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Sunday.

Lt. Col. Shir Aziz Kamawal, general police commander for northeastern zone, said the chief of northeastern zone basin Eng. Mohammad Naim Nawabi was kidnapped a few days back in Chasmai Shir area of Baghlan province along with his driver and a relative.

He said the basin chief and the two others were set free from rebels on Wednesday noon. There were no any deals for the release of the men, but they were freed by mediation of tribal elders and efforts of provincial officials especially the provincial police chief, he said.

Nawabi was kidnapped about four days back.
