ANA helicopter makes hard-landing in Kunduz

ANA helicopter makes hard-landing in Kunduz

Feb 23, 2017 - 20:16

KUNDUZ/TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A Afghan military helicopter on Thursday performed emergency landing in a Talibaninfo-icon-controlled area in northern Kunduz province, police said.

Kunduz police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hamid Hamidi told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place in the afternoon in Dasht-i-Archi district.

He said security forces had been sent to the area where the Afghan National Army’s helicopter had crash-landed. He said the crew members had been moved to safety but the helicopter remained in the area.

The police chief said the ANA copter had gone to Dasht-i-Archi as part of an operation and developed a technical fault on the way back to Takhar province.

But a security official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the helicopter went down after being shot by Taliban militants. He said the Taliban then set the helicopter on fire.

A resident of Darqad district, Ahmad, said the military helicopter was pounding militant positions when it was shot by the insurgents.

He said the flow-flying helicopter started moving towards Dash-i-Archi district after being hit. Takhar’s Darqad and Kunduz’s Dasht-i-Archi districts border each other.

The Taliban also said they had hit a helicopter in Darqad district that fell in Dasht-i-Archi district.
