Civilian among 11 killed in Herat & Kunduz

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen on Thursday shot dead a civilian and wounded his brother in the capital of western Herat province, with 10 Talibaninfo-icon killed and five others wounded in Kunduz, officials said.

Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, Herat zonal hospital spokesman, said the two brothers came under attack in Amiriat Square of the provincial capital at around 10am.

“One of the brothers was a moneychanger and the other a cargo company. The two were brought to hospital in a severely injured condition. one of them succumbed to HIS injuries,” he said.

Sherzai added Nazir Ahmad, 35, lost his life and Mohammad Rafi, 37, was in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Herat police confirmed the incident, saying a search had been mounted for the attackers. Abdul Ahad Wali Zada, police spokesman, said the motive behind the shooting was yet to be ascertained.

On the other hand, Lt. Gen. Sher Aziz Kamawal, police commander for the northeastern zone, said air strikes in the Kanam locality of Kunduz City killed seven insurgents and injured another three.

He said a car and a heavy machine gun belonging to the rebels were also destroyed during the operation. Kamawal said three insurgents were killed and two others wounded during a cannon strikes in the Jo-i-Bigam area of Imaminfo-icon Sahib district.
