Daesh being equipped & financed by Pakistan: Mangal

Feb 23, 2017 - 18:44

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor of eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday alleged the Daesh militant group had not been vanquished in the province because fresh fighters were sent there from Pakistaninfo-icon.

Mohammad Gulab Mangal, after a gathering in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, told reporters the newly-launched operation against Daesh codenamed ‘Shaheen-25’ was successfully going on.

He said 10 to 20 Daesh militants were being killed daily but fresh fighters continued to join its ranks. The fighters entered into Nangarhar from Pakistan, making the ongoing operation difficult, he added.

According to him, more than 50 Daesh militants had been killed since the commencement of the Shaheen-25 operation in Haska Mena and Kot districts.

“Unfortunately, Daesh militants are not only coming from Pakistan, but their military equipment and funds are also provided by the neighbouring country,” the governor alleged.

Gen. John Nicholson, commander of NATO forces in Afghanistaninfo-icon, told the US Senate a few days back Daesh in the region had made a confederation with Pakistani Talibaninfo-icon and other outfits.

The Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, recently told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation against Daesh was facing problems due to Pakistani attacks on border areas.
