Journalist father killed by ANA soldier in Uruzgan

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A local reporter’s father has been killed by an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier in central Uruzgan province, officials said on Tuesday.

Gulaly, eyewitness told Pajhwok Afghan news that the incident took place near the Monar square in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, late on Monday.

He said the Paiwaston voice radio reporter Fazel Ahmad Basharmal’s Father Abdul Khaleq was on his way to mosqueinfo-icon for evening prayer when the ANA soldier opened fire at him.

The accused soldier was arrested by other officers after the incident and was being investigated, he added.

The provincial hospital head, Dr. Aminullah Tokhi, said they received an elder wounded man who was hit with bullet at head and succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

Uruzgan Police Chief, Brig. Gen, Ghulam Farooq Sangari confirmed the incident and said the detained ANA soldier was being investigated.

The slain Abdul Khaleq was a civilian and shopkeeper, he added.

Dost Mohammad Nayab, the governor’s spokesman also confirmed the incident.
