LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Thirty- two civilians, including Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel, have been freed from Talibaninfo-icon prison during security forces special operation in southern Helmand province, an official said on Monday.

Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasoul Zazai, spokesman for 215th Maiwand Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation to free captive security personnel and civilians was conducted Sunday night in the Chah Merza Square of Nad Ali district.

He said 32 civilians including three Afghan Local police were released during the overnight raid.

He said security forces had launched clearing operation in the area between Nad Ali and Lashkargah, the provincial capital, five days back in which 90 percent of the road leading to the district centre was reopened and the operation was still underway.

Separately, Afghan Border Police (ABP) claimed to have recaptured the Mandi area of Bolan situated in the limits of third municipality district of Lashkargah.

Taliban have not yet commented fresh incidents.
