JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A suicide bomber detonated explosives wrapped around his body in front of a mosqueinfo-icon in eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, killing at least one person.

The blast took place soon after people started coming out of the mosque in Daronta village of Surkhrod district, Nangarhar Hajjinfo-icon and Islamic Affairs director Abdul Zahir Haqqani told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Haqqani said he was the target but the attacker hugged his brother as soon as he stepped outside the mosque, killing his brother and himself.

He said no one else suffered casualties in the blast and his guards had captured two accomplices of the attacker.

The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, confirmed the attack that occurred at about 2:30pm.

He said only one person, a brother of Haqqani, had been hit in the attack, but he did know whether the brother was killed or wounded.
