KABUL on Friday beat Ireland in their second ODI in the Indian capital New Delhi, to lead the five-match series 2-0.

Afghanistan’s skipper Asghar Stanikzai won the toss and chose to bat in the 50-over game played at Greater Noida ground.

Openers Shahzad Mohammad and Noor Ali Zadran got off to an aggressive start, setting the platform as Mohammad completed his 50 and was dismissed at 63. Noor Ali made 25 runs.

Skipper Stanikzai struck his ODI career’s first century and in the last moments of the game, Shafiqullah Shafaq made 35 fastest runs, taking the total to 338.

In response, Ireland were at 100 without loss in 15th over, but Gulbadin Naib broke the Irish partnership at 113.

But after losing the first wicket, Irish batsmen could not stay on the crease and the entire batting line collapsed at 304, thanks to Rashid Khan’s 6 wickets haul.

Afghanistan won the second ODI against Ireland by 34 runs. Ireland’s Paul Stirling who grabbed six wickets and made 90 runs was the man of the match.

Afghan International Company General Petroleum is the main sponsor of the 5 ODIs series between Afghanistan and Ireland.
