16 Taliban eliminated in Helmand airstrike

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 16 Talibaninfo-icon have been killed and nine others wounded in Afghan forces air raid in the Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province, an official said on Monday.

Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasoul Zazai, spokesman for 215th Maiwand military corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News the air force targeted a group of Taliban who were planning attacks against security forces.

Zazai said, 16 militants were killed and nine others wounded and many weapons and ammunition were destroyed during the airstrike.

Akhtar Mohammad, a resident of Nad Ali said to Pajhwok, the security forces carried out the airstrike late on Monday and Taliban suffered heavy casualties but, he was unaware of the exact figure of militants’ losses.

Separately, four Taliban had been killed in Sangin district during infighting, Zazai claimed.

Taliban have not yet commented about Afghan forces airstrike and infighting incident.

But, the group’s spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, wrote in his social media account that nine security forces suffered casualties by Taliban in the Qari Posty locality of Nad Ali district.
