2 insurgents killed, Taliban district chief injured

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon’s district chief was injured along with two of his accomplices while a fourth rebel killed was during a clash with security forces in western Herat province, officials said on Sunday.

Separately, one insurgent was killed and two suspects were detained during a raid in the Nijrab district of central Kapisa province.

Jilani Farhad, the Herat Governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants clashed with Afghan forces in the Gardana area of Farsi district late on Saturday.

He said Mullahinfo-icon Sher Ahmad, Taliban’s shadow chief for Farsi district and two of his accomplices were injured. At least one fighter was eliminated during the clash. The condition of Ahmad is said to be critical, he said, adding a policeman was also injured during the gunbattle.

On the other hand, one militant was killed and two suspects including a woman were arrested during an operation in Kapisa.

The overnight operation was conducted in the Dara-i-Afghania area of Nijrab district, the governor’s spokesman, Qais Qaderi, confirmed said.

Meanwhile, a tribal elder from the area also said a Taliban rebel named Musafir was killed by Afghan forces. But he added the two detainees were civilians.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, told Pajhwok two civilians were killed and as many others detained during a raid by US troops in the Kandokhel village of Nijrab district.
