Achin bombing in complete coordination with Afghan forces: Nicholson

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): NATOinfo-icon Resolute Support (RS) mission commander in Afghanistaninfo-icon on Friday renewed support to Afghan government and security forces in fight against Daesh and said the overnight heavy bombing was carried out in complete coordination with Afghan forces.

Gen. Nicholson told reporters Afghan security forces were fighting terrorism to secure their country, neighbor and the region.

 The US/NATO forces commander while stressing the importance of Afghan security forces in fight against terrorism said the last night dropping of conventional largest bomb also called Mother of All Bombs (MoAB) was done in complete coordination with Afghan forces.

“Units of Afghan and NATO forces are present at the site of overnight bombing and there was no report of civilian casualties,” Nicholson told the media persons.

He said Daesh regrouping in Afghanistan forces the decision to drop the largest non-nuclear bomb on the hardcore militants’ positions.

He said Daesh rebels kidnapped tribal elders and killed them and tied the knot with their daughters by force.

He termed the overnight bombing a success and said it was the right weapon used against the right target.

Nicholson claimed around 400 square kilometer area in the south of Nangarhar province had been cleared of Daesh and NATO would continue its support from Afghan forces in this fight.

Earlier, he Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a statement that 36 Daesh rebels have been killed and huge caches of weapons and explosives destroyed in the overnight world largest non-nuclear bombing of Achin district in eastern Nangarhar province.
