Qarabagh police chief transfer sparks protest

Apr 18, 2017 - 16:24

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Hundreds of people on Tuesday morning protested against a presidential order transferring the entire police station in Qarabagh district of central Kabul province.

Abdul Sami Sharifi, the district’s administrative chief, said Qarabagh police chief and whole personnel of the directorate had been transferred in compliance with a president decree.

He said new personnel had not been appointed so far.

The residents emerged on roads at 8am chanting slogans “we want security,” “we want peace” until ending their rally at 11am.

Mir Hamza, one of the protestors, said the police chief and all personnel under him had always tried to secure the district.

He feared the Qarabagh district would once again become insecure if the presidential order was enforced.

But the district chief rejected assertion of the protestors as baseless, saying the security personnel were transferred following people’s complaints and insecurity in the district.
