Taliban's shadow governor for Baghlan among 25 killed in raid

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon's shadow governor for northern Baghlan province Maulviinfo-icon Helal and some key commanders of the militant group were among 25 people killed in an overnight raid, an official said on Wednesday.

Policechief Ekramuddin Sarei told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was conducted in coordination with police by the commando forces, enjoying close-air support.

Maulvi Helal, his commanders Maulvi Sher Alam, Maulvi Shahabuddin, Maulvi Janbaz and Qari Khalid were among 25 insurgents killed in the raid.

In addition, two suspects, who dfacilitated Taliban's contacts with the Pakistani forces, were captured and a military vehicle seized from them.

Governor Abdul Hai Naimati hailed security forces for cconducting the successful operation and said it was a huge setback to the Taliban.

“I have already promised coming hard on the Taliban and will honour my word. Dand-i-Ghori and Dand-i-Shahabuddin areas of Pul-i-Khumri will be cleared of fighters soon," he said.

Haji Mohammad, the resident of the locality, said 11 civilians, including womeninfo-icon and children, had been killed in the offensive.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the Baghlan operation.
