KABUL (Pajhwok): Ninety Daesh rebels were wounded in last week’s US largest non-nuclear bomb strike on their positions in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Thursday.

Earlier, the ministry had said 96 militants, including 13 commanders, of Daesh were killed in the massive US bomb attack.

MoD spokesman Maj. Gen. Dawlat Waziri told Pajhwok Afghan News their latest assessments showed another 90 Daesh rebels had been wounded in the bombing.

The wounded Daesh rebels include Abdul Hanan, a brother of slain Hafiz Saeed Khan who led Daesh-Khorasan and Sheikh Khattab, a senior member of the Pakistani Taliban.

He said three 40-metre long tunnels, two 15-metre and a 12-metre long tunnel the Daesh had recently constructed were destroyed in the attack.

The killed and wounded Daesh rebels included Pakistani, Indian and Uzbek nationals.

But according to other sources Tajik, Bangladeshi, Russian and Pilipino militants were also killed and wounded in the attack.

Daesh, however, strongly denied it members were killed or wounded in the last week bombing.
