KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has conferred a prestigious government medal on 36 culturists, writers and poets in recognition of their efforts and contribution to promotion of culture and literary activities in the country.

A statement from the Presidential Palace to Pajhwok Afghan News said the medals were conferred at a seminar titled ‘Prof. Dr. Sayeed Bahauddin Majroh Seminar’ at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday evening.

Prof. Hamidullah Faroqi, a lecturer at Kabul University, briefed the president about the seminar, a series of academic gatherings.

The program this time highlighted scientific and literary work of the deceased Prof. Dr. Sayeed Bahauddin Majroh, he said.

Talking on behalf of culturists, Dr. Noorul Habib Nisar and another Kabul University lecturer, Dr. Mohammad Daud Rawesh, appreciated the president’s attention to the country’s culturists and scholars.

President Ghani thanked all those who participated in organizing the Prof. Dr. Sayeed Bahauddin Majroh Seminar.

He called Majroh a strong academic character and said the scholar left behind a long-term message for his people so discussions on him should not remain limited to a seminar.

Ghani said Majrho’s thoughts should be developed and placed in the education curriculum.

“The thoughts of Majroh have many dimensions, he analyzed intellectual, social and political crisis very well. Majroh was able to serve as a prime minister, but he preferred to teach in university,” he said.

The president added a faculty in Kunar University and some squares in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces should be named after Majroh.

The state, society and people could not live without a culture the development of which needed comprehensive efforts, he said. The president assured a cultural council would be created in near future.
