CEO office alleges nepotism in govt appointments

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) office on Thursday alleged nepotism and personal preference in making appointments on government jobs in some deprtments, but said the government was trying to resolve the issue.

Mujeeb Rahman Rahimi, CEO spokesman, told a press conference here it was nfortunate that corruption remained a serious problem in public sector organizations. He said the menace should be dealt with seriously and honestly.

“Sometimes appointments to government posts are made on personal and ethnic relationship but the unity government has put all-out efforts into combating corruption and bringing about reforms.”

Three days back, President Ashraf Ghani said the Ministry of Interior (MoI) was as ‘heart of corruption’ and appointments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) had been made on ethnic lines.

The CEO spokesman also spoke about the border tension between Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon, saying the Pakistani government had always used borders and Afghan refugees as a pressure tool.

“To get rid of this problem, the government has a long-term plan to avoid relying on Pakistani borders and steps have been taken in this regard.”

About Russian foreign minister’s remarks in support of the unity government, he said Afghanistan expected its neighboring countries to support the unity government in any process it led and refrain from having a direct contact with terrorist groups.

He also the US was expected to announce its new policy on Afghanistan next week, saying possibility of a massive increase in the number of American troops in Afghanistan was likely.
