ADB backs ancient Silk Road’s rehabilitation

ADB backs ancient Silk Road’s rehabilitation

May 15, 2017 - 22:40

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said it supports the revival of the ancient Silk Road as part of China’s One Belt One Road initiative.

ADB head Takehiko Nakao, talking to Pajhwok Afghan News on the sidelines of the bank’s 50th annual gathering in Japan, said the ADB was largely using its 50 years of experience in future programs and development of Asian countries.

He said cooperation and regional integration, which was part of ADB agenda, had been included in the bank’s strategy until 2030.

About the revival of the ancient Silk Road that passes from Afghanistaninfo-icon and connects Asia with Europe and Africa, Nakao said: “The ADB supports the rehabilitation of the Silk Road.”

From economic point of view, the ancient road, also called China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative, would benefit a large number of countries once implemented, he said.

The ADB’s 50th annual meeting was held from May 4 to May 7 in Yokohama city of Japan.

Nakao said the meeting was aimed at assessing the bank’s last year’s performance and use its experiences in future plans.
