KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Eighteen Afghan National Army troops were killed and 16 others were wounded in an overnight attack by Talibaninfo-icon militants in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Friday.

Hundreds of Taliban gunmen stormed an ANA base in Zangitan area of the Shah Walikot district last night, sparking a gun-battle that lasted three hours, an official told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said 18 soldiers were killed, 16 wounded and four others were captured.

He said seven attackers had also been killed and 15 others wounded.

However, the Taliban claimed killing more than 30 soldiers and capturing weapons and vehicles.
