Border police construct mosque at own expense in Paktia

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Personnel from the Second Border Police Brigade in southeastern Paktia province have built a mosqueinfo-icon inside the force headquarters on their own expense, officials said on Sunday.

Officials of the police brigade said the personnel, authorities and officials had contributed a part of their monthly salary to the mosque which was eventually constructed.

Brig. Gen. Mohammad Mandozai, 2nd Border Brigade Police commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News the mosque’s construction cost 1.6 million afghanis provided by the police personnel.

He said painting the mosque was suspended due to the arrival of Ramadaninfo-icon month. “The mosque has the capacity to accommodate 400 worshippers.”

An official of the brigade, Maj. Noor Agha, said earlier there was a wood-made mosque in the premises of the headquarters, but praying there in summer and winter was difficult due to harsh weather condition.

A soldier of the brigade, Zabihullah, expressed happiness over construction and inauguration of the mosque.  “I am very happy about the mosque where we will be now able to pray comfortably.”
