KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The spymaster on Sunday rejected the presence of a ‘fifth pillar’ within the government and revealed arresting three suspects in connection with a massive truck bombing in Kabul.

Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai, the National Directorate of Security head, told the Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon, the upper house of parliament or Senate, that the truck bomb attack that killed and wounded hundreds of people was aimed at disrupting the Kabul Process conference.

He said all regional and local terrorist groups were operating in Afghanistaninfo-icon. He said they had prior information about a possible attack but there had been no clue to the use of a truck.

Without going into details, Stanikzai said a foreign delegation was jointly investigating the May 31 bombing with Afghan officials.

About the protest that followed the truck bombing, the spymaster said the protestors should have sought permission for carrying out the demonstration, but they did not.

He said police officers who fired at the protestors were being investigated by a team and those found guilty would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

About the triple suicide blasts that ripped through the funeral of a lawmaker’s son who was killed during the protest, the NDSinfo-icon chief said investigation into the incident was underway and enough evidence was available that showed the attackers had attended a religious school in Chaman border town of Pakistaninfo-icon.

To a question, Stanikzai rejected the involvement of the Haqqani networkinfo-icon in the truck bombing, saying the group had accepted responsibility under pressure.

He said evidence about recent attacks had been shared with international organizations in order mount pressure on the perpetrators.

He also said two persons had been arrested in connection with the attack on Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital in Kabul. He said investigation into the hospital attack had been completed and the results would be shared with the people.

Ninety people had been killed and 400 others wounded in the attack on the military hospital near the US Embassy in March.

About the landing of unknown helicopter in some areas of the country, Stanikzai said no evidence had so far been received in this regard.

Stanikzai said there was no fifth pillar within the government. “But there is injustice, the political system has problem. We should not blame each other..we should not pave the way for the enemy to propagate. There is political rivalry and political pillar who blame each other without proof.”

Commander general of police at the Ministry of Interior, Mohammad Salam Ihsas, said they had no idea about the protest. They came to know about the protest through social media and then police took measures, he said.

He said there was no prior information about the truck bombing but there was information about threats. He said 37 police were injured after the protestors started pelting stones at them during the demonstration. However, he said there was no evidence to show protestors had fired at the police.
