‘Impartial body be appointed to probe Kabul incidents’

‘Impartial body be appointed to probe Kabul incidents’

Jun 23, 2017 - 16:45

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Civil societyinfo-icon activists, expressing concern over increasing insecurity in the country, on Friday asked the government to appoint a commission for investigation into recent terrorist attacks in Kabul.

About three weeks ago on May 31, a massive truck bomb attack killed and wounded hundreds of people in Kabul, sparking an angry protest a day later.

Three back to back suicide bombings ripped through the funeral for a lawmaker’s son who was killed during the protest, killing seven people and injuring several others.

Then a large number of people erected protest tents in the main square of Kabul to demand resignation of top government officials over their failure to protect citizens.

Some of the tents were removed following talks and the last one had to be removed by force.

Collective Justice society group embers on Friday told a press conference that the government should appoint an impartial commission to investigate the recent attacks in Kabul.

They said those involved in the incidents should be brought to justice because it was the responsibility of the government to protect people’s lives and properties

One of them, Zaki, said continued insecurity was of great concern because it claimed dozens of lives on a daily basis. He said the people were not happy with the government because the regime paid no attention to their security and rights.
