BEIJING (Pajhwok): Director and Editor-in-Chief of Pajhwok Afghan News Danish Karokhel , hopes China’s mega project  One Belt One Road (OBOR) will have a positive long-term project effect on regional stability and peace, particularly in Afghanistan.

During the ongoing CICA Non-Governmental Forum in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon, he told a roundtable that the media had an important role to play in promoting Asia’s security.

At the event titled  Spread Asian security concept, Build community of common destiny, he said Afghanistan had recently laid a railway track for the first time.

The railway line would bring multiple benefit to both sides, Karokhel believed. More than 10 domestic and foreign media representatives delivered speeches at the roundtable.

China’s historical game-changing initiative introduced by President Xi Jinping carries a huge potential and golden opportunities for landlocked country Afghanistan, according to the Pajhwok editor.

He said as Afghanistan gradually recovered from a long war, the government in Kabul remained committed to providing good opportunities to its people and strengthening the economy.

“Afghanistan has a unique geographical location and is rich in natural resources,  which give it a good opportunity to play an active role in the development of the OBOR initiative,” he remarked.

China was investing a lot in member countries for the development of local infrastructure and energy projects, which would lead to sustainable GDP growth, he opined. Afghanistan could also benefit from OBOR, as it would in connecting South Asia with Central Asia.

“Afghanistan’s transit road will be a plus point for local economy and towards international destination. Afghanistan needs investment of billions of dollars for infrastructural development, education, healthcare, energy projects and various other sectors.

“OBOR will be a first knock at the door which must be cashed. China has taken a key step towards bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Wang Yi just visited the country recently in a bid to realise that goal.
