4 Kapisa education officials jailed over embezzlement

MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): Four educationinfo-icon department officials have been sentenced to jail by an anti-corruption court in central Kapisa province, officials said on Tuesday.

Provincial council chief Mohammad Hussain Sanganee told Pajhwok Afghan News the four officials had been accused of funds’ embezzlement in 1392 solar yearinfo-icon.

They were sentenced to jail terms ranging from one month to five years by the primary court yesterday and were taken into custody today.

The public representative said Ghulam Hazrat and Mustafam, logistics staff at the education department, had allegedly embezzled 700,000 afghanis in the oil sector.

He added the court also jailed Sardar Khan and Agha Sherin, financial employees of the department, for six months on charges of embezzlement in clothing and education surveys. He did not reveal the embezzled money.

Mohammad Nasim Safi, education department head, said he was not satisfied with the court decision. He said the four individuals had no attorney to defend them during their trial.

But they would be defended by an attorney in the appeal court, he said. Pajhwok attempted to discuss the cases of the four men with the authorities but a contact was not established.
