KABUL (Pajhwok): Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hosted a half-day training workshop on the United Nation Global Marketplace (UNGM) tool use for registration in Kabul, the organization said on Thursday.

The Wednesday’s workshop in Pamir hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, but not with “The United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM).”

Ilhom Muhomediev, International Procurement Officer at Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said: “The UNGM was a beneficial facilitator to UN suppliers to introduce their business to UN organizations and to be promoted internationally.”

More than 50 companies participated in the workshop and learned about UNGM background, registration process and how to use UNGM tool through practical examples.

The main objectives of the workshop were to encourage the suppliers to be registered with UNGM tool in order to have more business opportunities with not only FAO but all UN agencies involved with UNGM.

The United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM) is the common procurement portal of the United Nations system of organizations.

It brings together UN procurement staff and the vendor community. The United Nations represents a global market of over USD 17 billion annually for all types of products and services.

The UNGM acts as a single window, through which potential suppliers may register with the UN organizations using the UNGM as their vendor database.

These organizations account for over 99 percent of the total UN procurement spent. The UNGM therefore, provides an excellent springboard to introduce the products and services of suppliers to many UN organizations, countries and regions by only completing one registration form.

The UNGM also enables vendors to keep abreast of upcoming tender notices. By subscribing to the Tender Alert Service, vendors can receive relevant business opportunities emailed directly.

The UNGM facilitates the interchange of vendor information within the UN system as information is made available to all UN organizations. The UNGM also acts as an important procurement tool to shortlist suppliers for competitive bidding.

The main agenda of the workshop was to give comprehensive information about UNGM, such as the registering procedure with UNGM, use of UNGM, importance of registering to UNGM and UN staff access on the system, and practical examples of registering to UNGM.
