BEIJING (Pajhwok): Entrepreneurs and intellectuals from Afghanistaninfo-icon, the UK and China have underlined the need for building rail, road and hydropower connections.

Such projects and investments in infrastructure development would create employment opportunities for the Afghan people, senior officials from the three countries agreed at a seminar in Beijing.

Speaking at the event on Friday, British Ambassador to China Dame Barbara Woodward stressed the importance of bringing together Afghan, British and Chinese expertise to identify tangible areas for cooperation.

She said: “Afghanistan faces infrastructure challenges, but located at the heart of Asia, the country could serve as a transit and trade hub; connecting East to West and North to South […], this will be a long-term project, but the UK and China remain committed to working together with Afghanistan.”

According to the diplomat, infrastructure is a key area of British assistance to Afghanistan. Electricity and roads to link up Afghanistan are essential for prosperity, agricultureinfo-icon and trade for all.
