There is no military solution to Afghan conflict: Janjua

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua, who visited Kabul on Tuesday and met Afghan leaders, has said there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict and the focus should be on evolving a credible political settlement.

Janjua held bilateral political consultations with her Afghan counterpart deputy foreign minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai and the two agreed that lasting peace and stability in Afghanistaninfo-icon was critical for regional stability, a statement from the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul said.

The two sides agreed that terrorism was a common challenge and there was a need to strengthen institutional cooperation between the two countries to effectively combat the menace.

Janjua underlined the need of strengthening border management and early humane repatriation of Afghan refugees, the statement said.

She emphasized the importance of regional connectivity and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to expedite transit facilitation and infrastructure connectivity projects between the two countries.

During her visit, the Foreign Secretary also called on Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, National Security Advisor  Hanif Atmar, NDSinfo-icon Chief Masoom Stanikzai, former President Hamid Karzai and Hizb-e-Wahdat leader, Ustaad Muhammad Mohaqiq.
