ISLAMABAD (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon army’s public relation director has stressed the need for managing the Durand Lineinfo-icon, saying effective security measures are in the interest of both sides.

Gen. Asif Ghafoor, during a meeting with a delegation of Afghan journalists visiting Rawalpindi, asked the delegates to play positive role in strengthening bilateral relations.

Afghanistaninfo-icon usually blamed Pakistan for supporting the Talibaninfo-icon and Haqqani Networkinfo-icon and refusing to nudge them into peace negotiation with the Afghan government.

He said it was the responsibility of Afghan and foreign forces to coordinate with Pakistan measures for maintaining border security and stopping militant movements.

“Pakistan’s action on Durand Line security and control is right, as a porous frontier offers no solution to the problem,” Ghafoor argued.

He vehemently denied Pakistan was supporting militant groups, urging the media to spread positive messages for the sake of close relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Relations between the beighbours turn worsened after President Ashraf Ghani came into power. He blamed Pakistan after frequent failures of peace negotiations brokered by the neighbour .

Ghafoor's statements regarding the Taliban and Haqqani network came a day after the US announced its new strategy for Afghanistan.

While rolling out his long-awaited plan, President Trump accused Pakistan of offering the Taliban, Haqqani network and other terrorist groups sanctuaries.

Trump said his country would no longer remain silent about terrorist safe havens inside Pakistan, from where extremist groups threatened Afghanistan and the US.
