Sar-i-Pul woman shot dead over seeking divorce

Aug 26, 2017 - 17:57

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A young woman was shot dead by her relatives after she sought divorce from her second husband in Sancharak district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Saturday.

Naseema Arzo, the provincial womeninfo-icon’s affairs department head, said  the victim, Pari Gul, hailing from Dotum village of the district, had previously taken divorce from her first husband two years ago and remarried with another person.

However, she sought divorce from the second husband as well, infuriating her father, an imaminfo-icon, to kill her in cooperation with Talibaninfo-icon militants, the official said.

She said no one had been so far arrested in connection with the murder; which was being investigated and the woman’s body had been brought to hospital.

Malika Alizada, Sar-i-Pul provincial council member, confirmed the incident , but refused to go into details. She said the woman was killed by irresponsible armed men.

An area resident, wishing anonymity, said the woman was killed by her brother with support of the Taliban and local residents for demanding divorce from her second husband.

Pajhwok tried to seek the slain woman’s brother and father’s comment; but in vain. The Taliban have also said nothing in this regard.
