13 civilians claimed killed in Logar airstrike

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): More than a dozen civilians and two senior Talibaninfo-icon figures were killed in a US airstrike in central Logar province on Wednesday morning, an official said and residents said.

Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the airstrike was carried out during an operation codenamed “Khanjar” in Baraki Barak district and Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, this morning.

He said a Taliban shadow governor Mullahinfo-icon Mohammadullah and his deputy Huzaifa for Khoshi district were killed in the air raid.

“The militants were hiding with some comrades in a house in Dashti Baree area, which came under the airstrike,” he added.

The airstrike also caused casualties to civilians but exact figures were not immediately known, the official said.

Khuda Nazar Kochi, an inhabitant of the area, said US forces carried out airstrikes on Wakeel’s house in the area.

He said the house was completely destroyed and there were 28 people in the house at the time of the strike. He said 13 civilians inside the house were killed and 11 others were wounded while the rest were believed to be under the rubble.

Dawud, another inhabitant in the area neighborhood, said the victims were ordinary resident of Khost province and had been living in the area for the past one year. “There were 28 to 32 people in the house. Only one man of the family who was not present at the time survived.”

Azizullah, a resident of the Dasht-i-Baree locality of Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok Afghan News American forces carried out the air raid on a civilian house in the morning.

He said all those in the house, including womeninfo-icon and children, were killed and the area was currently under siege from Afghan and foreign forces. “The house is located in Sarha Qala area, where a US plane has crashed.”

The governor’s spokesman said security forces had been sent to the area to investigate the incident. However, he denied the plane crash in the locality, saying the aircraft had flown troops to the vicinity.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban’s spokesman, claimed the fighters shot down a NATOinfo-icon aircraft and all soldiers aboard were killed.

He also claimed US forces carried out airstrikes on civilians in the area, killing 13 including women and children and injuring seven others.

The US forces have not yet commented on the incident.
