JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two suicide bombers attacked the residence of a powerful lawmaker in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday morning, killing his two guards and injuring another two.

One suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of Haji Zahir Qadir’s residence in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, and the second was gunned down by the guards, said Attaullah Khogyani, the provincial government spokesman.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack on the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon member’s house took place at around 10:00am.

Nangarhar police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi also told reporters that initial investigation showed the attackers were two in number and one of them detonated himself and the second was shot dead and his suicide vest was defused later.

He confirmed the casualties as mentioned by Attaullah Khogyani.

Officials said no one else was hurt in the attack that was being investigated to determine how the suicide bombers were able to reach so close to the MP’s house.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack after Qadir expressed his tremendous anger at Daesh (Islamic State) at a large gathering in Jalalabad.
