MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani said on Sunday six billion dollars would be spent over the next four years on strengthening the country’s air force.

The president, who arrived in eastern Laghman province from Kabulinfo-icon at the head of a high level delegation, visited the Afghan National Army’s 201 Selab Military Corps base.

The president met with the corps officials and said after the United States announced its new strategy on Afghanistaninfo-icon, the NATOinfo-icon Resolute Support mission had increased its support to the Afghan forces.

Ghani said the RS mission would further increase its support to the Afghan security forces.

Earlier, the Laghman governor’s spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the president arrived at the military base in the morning.

He said the president was accompanied by a high level delegation and the visit was aimed at evaluating the security situation in the eastern zone --- Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Nuristan provinces.

A statement from the Presidential Palace quoted the president as praising the bravery and sacrifices of the defense and security forces.

The president said peace and stability would return to the country soon and it would allow the security forces on the battlefield to return to their families.

Ghani praised the security forces for their heroism against the Islamic State militant group and thanked the peoples of eastern provinces for sending their sons to join the forces.

The president said special attention would be paid to the families of the martyred security personnel.

He also said facilities would be provided to the returning refugee families and the issue of land-grabbing would be addressed.

“These refugees are part of our body, they have the right to live in every part of the country,” the president said.
