Finance minister attends inaugural ceremony for CAREC Institute

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi has travelled to the Chinese city of Urumqi where he participated in the inauguration ceremony for the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said on Sunday.

Finance ministers from Pakistaninfo-icon, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other Asian Countries were present on the occasion. The role of CAREC in consolidating regional economic cooperation and implementation of different projects came up for discussion, a statement from the ministry said.

The CAREC programmes for Afghanistaninfo-icon and other important subjects were also discussed during the meeting. Hakimi congratulated Chinese Finance Minister Xiao Jie, member countries, ADB and other financial contributors on the inauguration of the institute.

At a separate meeting with Xiao Jie and Takehiko Nakao, head of the Asian Developent Bank, Hakimi discussed strengthening of bilateral relations.

Financing of projects by ADB, contribution from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), holding of Joint Economic Commission meetings next month in China, programmes of the institute for Afghanistan, China’s support for regional connectivity, water management, energy and other important schemes were also discussed.

Separately, Hakemi visited 21 Afghan children who are in Urumqi to undergo surgeries for VSD/heart hole at Xinjiang Hospital. The treatment for heart holes was launched by International Red Cross Societyinfo-icon of China. As many as 100 children are going to be treated under this programme.
