Test power supply to Ghazni from Kabul launched

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): After extension of power pylons from Kabul, southern Ghazni province was connected to imported electricity for the first time on temporary trial basis, an official said Wednesday.

Governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Arif Noori, told Pajhwok Afghan News the electricity was connected to the province for testing technical electric equipment installed there.

He said technical work on installation of a substation in Ghazni had been completed and construction process to secure the substation was rapidly underway.

Ghazni will consume electricity imported from Turkmenistan. Two other substations are being installed in Qarabagh and Muqar districts of the province.

Noori said 30 megawatts of electricity would be supplied to Ghazni benefitting 30,000 families in the first phase and other areas would be provided the facility gradually.

He said as the power pylons installation from Kabul to Ghazni had already been completed, the province would be fully prepared to get stable electricity over the next six months.

Ghazni residents said they were happy over the extension of electricity to their province.

Rahmatullah Marjankhel, a resident of Ghazni city, said the facility would create job opportunities for many people.

 “We are very happy for arrival of electricity because it will help businessmen open factories and create job opportunities,” he said.

A trader, Abdur Rahman from Ghazni, said he had opened factories in Kabul and Herat provinces due to lack of electricity in his province.

“Now when electricity is provided to Ghazni, I will open factories here and hire jobless youths,” he said.

According to Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) office in Ghazni, 27 percent residents of the province have access to electricity buying each kilowatt for 30 afghanis.
